Rollin’ with “unsaved” folk? you might think this is a funny title, how this title came about is even more of an interesting story but i’ll leave that for another day.
A few weeks back, I felt the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart about being a light in darkness. I think for the longest time, I would flee situations, that could make me compromise my faith or do something I regret. I mean many of us have heard those preachers talk about being unequally yoked and not allowing bad company to corrupt good character. Don’t get it twisted! this is true, and it it very important that we undestand which people to hang around. But the reality is many of us, including myself have unconscioulsy used this as an opportunity to schirk opportunities God provides for us to befriend people (out of love) and see them change through God’s grace and presence in your life.
Jesus was many things but He was far from unapproachable, and I feel that in an attempt to protect ourselves from darkness we have also shut the door to being approachable and accessible to the lost. This is contrary to the gospel we represent because the bible tells us to “Go” NOT run and hide.
I registered that in my own walk part of my lack of my fruitbearing was due to being fearful of my Godgiven light being dimed by the influence of unbelievers. Yes I know Bizaar right? It’s not like God doesn’t hang around a bunch of imperfect souls out of his incomprehendable love for us.
John 1:5 (NLT)
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.“
When we come to the realisation of this truth we muct change our approach and be more encouraged to show love and be more inviting to people because it’s apart of our assignment on earth. The light in you is greater than any amount of darkness; and it is the light of God’s presence in our lives that will help us to love God, love people and make His name known while doing it.
1 John 4:4 NLT
“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”
More than ever I am challenged to believe that the light cannot be overcome by darkness. It’s the moral of most hero movies etc.
Good always wins, or you can say God always wins. You cannot be overcome if the light is within you.
“BUT JESUS HUNG OUT WITH SINNERS”
Obviously the flipside is that too often “Christians” use this as an excuse to maintain unhealthy relationships and to justify certain behaviours that just ain’t sanctified. This is why living a life where the Holy Spirit is your #bestie is so important, it is by Him that you will know who to move close to and who to have boundaries with.
I hope this blessed you, it took ages just to sit down and get this out!
Have a great week
